MISSION & HISTORY

Strong City was founded in 2017 by Tulane Alumni Peter Gold. After attempting to intervene in a violent situation in downtown New Orleans, LA, Peter was shot. When he woke up several days later in the hospital, he struggled to fathom what sequence of events led up to the shooter's ability to unleash violence with such ease. The mission of Strong City is to understand this question through the lens of youth development.

Strong City's mission is to disrupt cycles of poverty and violence in New Orleans by supporting established local organizations that promote youth empowerment, leadership, and education. We strive to improve the lives of New Orleans Youth through project-based giving and support to our community partners, such as The Youth Empowerment Project, The New Orleans Women and Children's Shelter, and more. Maintaining strong relationships and open communication with our partners ensures that our resources are used most intentionally and make positive impact.

"As Program Coordinator, I formed genuine bonds with our partners like the Youth Empowerment Project and the New Orleans Women & Children's Center, even becoming friends with individuals like Miss Coleman from NOWCS.  This experience provided hands-on professional growth while breaking the Tulane bubble in a fulfilling and enjoyable way."
